Volkswagen Start Production of 2023 ID.4 in US Plant

Volkswagen, the German automobile company, has announced the start of production of its all-electric ID.4 SUV at its manufacturing facility located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This start of production solidifies the ID.4 as the first electric vehicle produced and sold in the United States.

ID.4 of Volkswagen started production in late 2020 as the first all-electric crossover SUV, and originally promoted as an Electric Vehicles for the millions, not the millionaires, and this mass market vehicle has now found a home with a number of consumers throughout China, North America, and Europe.

For current customers of in North America, the ID.4 has remained an import as Volkswagen has not previously produced any electric vehicles on US soil, despite a large manufacturing facility in Tennessee, and is also planning for a second facility in the United States in addition to a new battery cell plant.

Although Volkswagen Group has seen a shake-up of executives in the company’s North American and global offices, and Volkswagen is also pushing onward in the United States, starting production of the popular ID.4.

According to a press release from Volkswagen Group, ID.4 production is officially underway in the plant, and this move is the result of Volkswagen’s 800 million dollar investment into the US facility to provide support for dedicated spaces for electrification and battery pack production.
