UK Drops Subsidies For Electric Plugin Cars

On Tuesday, the government of the United Kingdom has dropped 1,500 pounds subsidy for the purchasers of the new plug-in cars as the company has been focusing on the other types of the electric vehicles but the news has been drawing anger from the automobile industry in the country.

The Department for Transport (DfT) of the United Kingdom said, the government of the United Kingdom is now closing the plug-in-car grant scheme to the new orders after successfully starting the electric car revolution of the United Kingdom. The grant had been launched in the year 2011 for the purpose of helping them in encouraging the people of the United Kingdom to ditch the pollution causing petrol and diesel cars.

Since the government of the United Kingdom has supported the sale of around half a million electric cars and the Department for Transport also added that, the subsidy had always been a temporary policy.

The sales of the fully electric cars has been rocketed from less than 1,000 in the year 2011 to around 100,000 vehicles in the first five months of the year 2022 alone. Although, the government of the United Kingdom is now switching its focus for the purpose of offering the subsidies on the sales of the new plug-in electric taxis along with the motorcycles, vans, trucks and wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

The government of the United Kingdom for banning the new sales of diesel and petrol cars in the United Kingdom from the year 2030 as a part of the goal of UK for reaching the net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
