GE Renewable Energy Launched 3-MW Sierra Wind Turbine Model For North America

GE Renewable Energy has launched the company’s newest onshore wind energy turbine platform, which is called as Sierra and it has been designed for the energy market of North America. The wind turbine has some revolutionary features and can also regenerate between 3 and 3.4 megawatts of electricity, which is enough energy to supply the equivalent of more 3,000 homes in the United States, and the wind turbine is also featuring a rotor of 140-meter and is offered with a variety of hub heights.

According to the reports, GE Renewable Energy said, Sierra also includes two-piece blade of the company and is also designed for improving the installation of the logistics and serviceability and currently, it has received more than 1 gigawatt of orders for the turbine platform.

According to the company, each of the three blades that make up the 140-meter rotor that is double the length of a Boeing 747, and it can be shipped in two parts, which has been making turns and transportation of the blades much more easy. The company has launched the Sierra platform with two types of prototypes, one in the region of Lubbock in Texas and one in the region of Kamataka in India and both the prototypes are having more than one year of a successful run time.

Pat Byrne, chief executive of GE onshore wind business said, they are absolutely delighted for introducing their Sierra platform to the onshore wind energy industry of North America, which is the most validated and tested turbine in the history of GE Renewable Energy.
