WHO Warns of Obesity Epidemic in Europe

On Tuesday, 3rd October 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) said, the obesity rates of the epidemic have been linked to more than 1.2 million deaths per year across the continent of Europe, and the WHO is also calling for the swift policy changes for reversing this dangerous trend.

The rates of obesity in the region of Europe have been increase by 138 percent in the previous five decades, and WHO also said that, the rates are also linked to series of cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that, around a quarter of the adults are having obesity in the continent of Europe, which has been higher than in any other region except the United States. The European office of the WHO said that, the obesity and overweight rates have now reached the epidemic proportions across the region and are still increasing at a rapid speed and the increased body mass index has been a large risk factor for the non-communicable diseases which is also including the cardiovascular diseases and cancers.

Obesity has been responsible in causing at least 13 of the different types of cancer and has likely been responsible for around 200,000 new cases of the cancer disease every year. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that, this figure is all set to increase in the upcoming years.
