Merck’s Covid-19 Antiviral Pill Can Reduce Hospitalization Risk by 50%

Merck’s experimental drug known as molnupiravir, for the purpose of treating severe novel corona virus patients has been successful in decreasing the risk of hospitalization and deaths of the people by around 50 percent in the results of the interim clinical trials.

The molnupiravir tablet had been given two times a day to the patients that have been recently diagnosed with the novel corona virus disease, and the US-based vaccine producer ‘Merck’ said, the results of the trials had been so positive that the monitors from the outside have also asked for stopping the trial early in the country.

The company also said, it is going to be apply for the authorization of the drug or pill for emergency use in the United States for the upcoming two weeks, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to Joe Biden, president of the United States, said that, the results of the clinical trials had been a very good news, but he has also urged the people for taking caution until the US FDA had reviewed the data of the drug.

If the molnupiravir drug is authorized by the US medicine regulators, the drug is going to be first oral antiviral medication for the novel corona virus, and the pill, that had been originally developed for the purpose of treating influenza, has been designed for introducing the errors into the genetic code of the novel corona virus, that has been preventing the corona virus from spreading.
