On Tuesday, Delaware Department of Justice announced said, the company ‘DuPont Co.’ and two spinoffs are going to pay at least 50 million dollars to the company ‘Delaware’ for the purpose of providing help in cleaning up the toxic chemicals in the country.
It has been for the first time, the Department of Justice of the United States has now resolved the claims of the environmental damage on behalf of the state, and the settlement is going to be paying for the environmental restoration, along with the sampling and analysis, improvement, equity grants and community environmental justice and also several other natural grants.
The companies Corteva and DuPont, which are the agriculture division of the company DowDuPont, each of them is going to be contributing 12.5 million dollars, and the company ‘Chemurs’, former performance chemicals unit of DuPont is going to be contributing the remaining 25 million dollars.
All the three companies have now reached a cost-sharing agreement earlier 2021, and these companies are going to be funding up to an additional amount of 25 million dollars if they are able to settle similar claims with the other states of the country for more than 50 million dollars.
The US Department of Justice said, the settlement is the result of an investigation, which is going to be led by the office of the attorney general into the impacts of the environment of the industrial legacy activities in Delaware.
