In Germany, Mercedes introduced its “Mercedes pay+” payment service. Using biometric authentication, the car’s fingerprint sensor in the infotainment system, certain Mercedes models can accept Visa credit and debit cards.
For infotainment services, subscribing to in-car services, and unlocking hardware capabilities, Mercedes pay+ is a cardless, wireless payment service that uses biometric authentication. Because the service uses two-factor authentication that uses your phone and the fingerprint sensor in your car, you still need to have your phone on you for security reasons. something comparable to what we see in Samsung and Apple’s smartphones.
The Mercedes pay+ service is only available in Germany on the EQS and EQE electric sedans if you charge them with a Mercedes-Benz fast charger. This is only natural because charging EVs often requires you to use your credit card. The service is also present in the following ICE models of the current generation.
In Germany, the Mercedes pay+ service is currently only available on some current-generation Mercedes models. Its capabilities are limited at this time because you can only make payments on the Mercedes me Store. However, in the future, you can anticipate using this service to pay for fuel or charging.
Although in-car payment services might become the next big thing in the auto industry, car owners will have to pay for features in the long run even if they pay the full price of the vehicle.
