Former F1, Haas Driver Nikita Mazepin Cleared to Race in Europe

Sports

A year after his career was halted by Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian ex-Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin was allowed to return to European motor racing. Nikita Mazepin, then 23 years old, was competing in the world championship for the Haas team, which was supported by the Uralkali company that belonged to his father, Dmitry.

When the war started, both his contract and the team’s title sponsorship were canceled. The European Union’s General Court lifted some of Nikita Mazepin’s sanctions, allowing him to travel and try to revive his career on the continent.

Because his father’s business operated in economic fields that provide Russia with a significant source of income, the EU had sanctioned him. Nikita Mazepin is still unable to compete for a team that has ties to his father or anyone who has been approved by the EU.

The declaration says that Nikita Mazepin must promise to race under a neutral flag and sign the commitment of the other drivers required by the International Automobile Federation if he is hired for F1 or another motorsport on European soil.

Nikita Mazepin, who just finished racing in Asia, was pleased with the EU body’s decision. Nikita Mazepin added that, he is very happy with this decision, which gives him hope to resume his professional career in international motor racing, that he will do everything in his power to make up for lost time, and that he is excited to return to the sport he loves and has dedicated his life to.

The General Court ruled that Nikita Mazepin is not responsible for Ukraine’s aggression and does not engage in any business activities that contribute significantly to Russia’s income.
