Apparently, FC Barcelona and their president, Joan Laporta, have made a brilliant last offer of $100-million to Lionel Messi’s team in order to get him back to the club. Lionel Messi has been with Barcelona since he was a shy 13-year-old. In the summer of 2021, Messi walked on a free and wept after the Catalans failed to meet a strict La Liga salary cap.
This led the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to Paris Sain Germain, one of the few clubs that could afford his salary. At the Parc des Princes, Lionel Messi signed a two-year contract, which ends on June 30, 2023, just before his 36th birthday.
Messi’s club future is uncertain after Argentina finally won the World Cup in Qatar. Due to their reported desire to lower his wages, his entourage is said to have discouraged him from accepting the option of an additional term at PSG.
A return to Barca is also possible if the cash-strapped La Liga giants are able to make the numbers work, even though the forward’s father and agent Jorge Messi initially ruled out such a possibility.
On the orders of La Liga president Javier Tebas, the club must also cut 200 million euros from their wage bill before 2023/2024. Similar issues that led Messi to PSG are still prevalent.
The same man who brought you the “economic levers” last year in president Joan Laporta is reportedly about to perform additional financial gymnastics to see Messi return “home” in light of Barca’s financial predicament.
