Canada, US, and Mexico Automatically Qualify for FIFA World Cup 2026

FIFA has confirmed that the United States, Mexico, and Canada will all be automatically included in the 2026 World Cup. With a larger field of 48 teams, the three nations are scheduled to host the tournament in 2026. The six spots for CONCACAF teams that are left after the three hosts have been filled by three more teams under the new rules.

In the most recent World Cup, which took place in 2022, 32 teams participated. According to a FIFA statement, the three teams’ participation is consistent with tournament customs.

The FIFA Council confirmed that, with the long-standing tradition of having all hosts compete at the FIFA World Cup, and in addition to sporting and operational considerations, the hosts of the FIFA World Cup 2026, namely Canada, Mexico, and the USA, will automatically qualify for the final round of the competition, with their slots being deducted from the overall allocation of six assigned to CONCACAF.

This is in keeping with the tradition of having all hosts compete at the FIFA World Cup. There will be eleven stadiums in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada for the games between the three nations. Canada will host games at BC Place in Vancouver and BMO Field in Toronto.

Lumen Field in Seattle, Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, NRG Stadium in Houston, AT&T Stadium close to Dallas, Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Gillette Stadium south of Boston, and MetLife Stadium in the New York Metro Area, are the eleven locations in the United States where FIFA will conduct the matches.
