Sports

Argentina, the World Cup runners-up that was were held in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia in 2023, has not been able to qualify for the competition.

Argentina, the first tournament’s champion in 1950 and 2002 runners-up, lost to the Dominican Republic in their final Americas qualifying event match at home.

Facundo Campazzo, a former member of the National Basketball Association, and Carlos Delfino, a 40-year-old member of the team that won the Olympic gold medal in Athens in 2004, were notable athletes from Argentina.

They only managed eight wins and four losses, which meant that they were just a point behind Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Brazil, all of whom had the same record.

Following the conclusion of the qualifiers, the 32-team lineup for the World Cup has been confirmed. This means that South Sudan, Georgia, Latvia, and Cape Verde all made it in for the first time in their respective histories.

In addition to the quartet, Angola, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, Montenegro, Puerto Rico, Serbia, and Venezuela secured a spot in the tournament, which will take place from August 25 to September 10.

Numi Omot scored a team-high 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and provided four assists while making 50% of his shots from the floor.
