Nissan Trials EV Haulers in Los Angeles, US

Nissan has stated that it is currently conducting car hauling tests on two all-electric Class 8 transport trucks in California. The trial aims to investigate the potential for greater industry adoption of electric trucks.

Nissan vehicles are being transported from the Port of Los Angeles to nearby dealers using the two trucks, one supplied by controversial startup Nikola and the other by Kenworth. A fleet of electric vehicles, including the all-electric Nissan Ariya, was recently delivered to Downey Nissan in California for testing.

Chris Styles, Nissan North America vice president of Supply Chain Management, said that, exploring the use of BEV trucks for new vehicle delivery is an important milestone in their journey toward carbon neutrality throughout their business. They are demonstrating their innovative spirit and putting themselves in a position to achieve their long-term objectives for zero-tailpipe-emission transportation by being early adopters of this technology.

Avant-Garde Auto Logistics LLC, a company with its headquarters in Smyrna, Tennessee, helps run the transport trucks. The trial’s primary objective is to encourage Nissan’s logistics partners to adopt electric trucks and educate them about the technology. Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Nissan’s logistics partner, has set up a charging station at the Port of Los Angeles for the electric trucks to use in this way.

Nissan claims that the lessons learned from the test are already being implemented as it prepares to use more electric trucks in the Los Angeles region. The automaker is also looking into how electric trucks might be used in other logistics situations in the near future.

The trial is a part of Nissan’s commitment to become carbon neutral in all of its operations by 2050, which also includes lowering the environmental impact of its entire supply chain. Nissan is actively looking into environmentally friendly and sustainable logistics solutions in addition to adding more EVs to its lineup.
