JLR Opens Three New Tech Hubs in Europe

As part of its partnership with Nvidia, an artificial intelligence company based in Silicon Valley, luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said that it will open three new engineering hubs in Europe to develop technologies for autonomous vehicles.

For JLR’s next generation of luxury vehicles, self-driving systems will be developed at the hubs in Munich, Bologna, and Madrid. The United States, China, and Europe are the six global tech hubs JLR already operates.

According to JLR, a division of Tata Motors in India, the locations were chosen due to the local availability of digital engineering specialists. These locations will result in the creation of nearly 100 engineering jobs focused on the creation of artificial intelligence and driver assistance systems for self-driving cars of the future.

Last year, JLR and Nvidia announced a multiyear agreement under which they will collaborate on the development of the computer brains and nervous systems for Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles that will go on sale in 2025 and beyond.

As JLR tries to catch up with Tesla Inc. and other luxury vehicle rivals in a digital technology arms race, the partnership with Nvidia provides it with a well-funded ally.
