SUSI Partners Launched Platform to Develop Renewable Energy Assets in South-East Asia

Power & Energy

Through its Asia Energy Transition Fund (SAETF), the Swiss investment firm SUSI Partners has launched a renewable energy platform to develop renewable energy assets in Southeast Asia. The development, construction, and operation of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and hydroelectric assets will be the primary focus of the platform.

In collaboration with Pacific Impact, a regional developer, SUSI’s platform will develop projects in the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, and other South-East Asian markets. The platform’s developer and project manager will be Pacific Impact, which has a presence in each of these markets.

The two businesses want to increase the region’s sustainable buildout of renewable energy capacity and use their expertise and knowledge to attract international capital. SUSI will provide investment expertise, while Pacific Impact will offer its renewable energy development experience.

SUSI Partners said in a statement that the joint venture with Pacific Impact marks SAETF’s fourth transaction and its entry into the utility-scale renewables space in the region, adding to an already well-diversified portfolio. Prior platform investments by SAETF were made in energy efficiency measures, microgrids, and commercial and industrial solar projects.

SAETF, which focuses on energy transition infrastructure investments throughout South-East Asia, has received capital commitments from private investors, development banks, and DFIs, as stated by SUSI Partners. By 2025, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) wants to use renewable energy for 23% of its primary energy.

According to estimates provided by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the annual financial flows into the clean energy sector of ASEAN would need to more than double in order to meet this goal. SUSI Partners acquired a portfolio of 100MW of battery storage projects in Texas, United States, in August 2022. Through SUSI’s Energy Transition Fund (SETF), the company purchased the portfolio with SMT Energy as a partner.
