In order to increase revenue, Twitter will soon begin selling usernames for inactive online actions. According to reports, the company’s engineers plan to hold online auctions where people can bid on Twitter handles or usernames.
How much Twitter will charge for selling inactive usernames is still unknown. People with knowledge of the plans said that the company has discussed selling some user names through online auctions, according to the report.
Musk tweeted in December that Twitter would soon begin releasing 1.5 billion usernames for free. According to Elon Musk, Twitter will soon begin releasing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts, and the company will also delete accounts with no tweets and no log in for years.
Musk posted that he was interested in freeing up accounts with usernames he wanted after buying Twitter for $44 billion.
Elon Musk, has been trying to increase the company’s revenue ever since he took over, including charging for its $8 Blue subscription service with verification.
As the company reduces internal revenue projections, several advertisers have left the microblogging platform.
Musk also said that the microblogging platform is working on a way to tell users if their tweets have been deleted through a process called “shadow banning,” and that they can appeal the decision.
