Google Cloud Accelerates Climate Change Cloud, Artificial Intelligence Technology

According to Justin Keeble, managing director for global sustainability at Google Cloud, and Adam Elman, head of sustainability for Google Cloud EMEA, the company has launched two new climate-focused startup accelerators in an effort to make 2023 the year that technology will unblock and accelerate the economy’s decarbonization.

Businesses must make decisions based on sustainability if they are to withstand the growing pressure from stakeholders and the tangible effects of climate change. The startup ecosystem plays an important role in supporting the progress of big companies toward sustainable business operations due to the fact that startups are not burdened by government regulation or the opinions of investors and public shareholders that larger enterprises, such as Google, deal with.

Startups developing technology to combat climate change will be identified, supported, and scaled up through the two new programs, which are geared toward Israel, Europe, and North America. Startups that are accepted will be matched with the experts in the Google Cloud network for help, guidance, and support in a variety of areas. However, the company will concentrate primarily on cloud technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) with the intention of advancing the technology and business of young startups.

The European Union pledged to establish a climate-neutral economy by 2050, a goal that will require digitalization and technology to achieve. The executives say that European businesses will look to startups for new technologies and ways to speed up their transformation.
