According to reports, the controversial referee Mateu Lohaz has been sent home following the World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands that the referee officiated on December 9, 2022. Lionel Messi was uncharacteristically harsh on him after the quarterfinal match, despite the fact that Argentina reached the semifinals.
Mateu Lahoz was called out for making some questionable decisions during a football match that was constantly disrupted by increasing flares from both teams. The referee had given out a total of 15 yellow cards.
After the match, Lionel Messi said that he would have rather not discussed the refs because of a paranoid fear of being punished. Lionel Messi went on to say that FIFA should take care of the situation because a referee shouldn’t be in charge of such a crucial game between Argentina and the Netherlands and the referee needs to be able to handle the situation.
The media reports that Mateu Lahoz has been disciplined and will not play in any of the remaining four World Cup 2022 games. However, Lionel Messi’s online fans have not hesitated to speculate that he has achieved his goal. Argentina will face disciplinary action from FIFA for violating its code of conduct during the Argentina-Netherlands match and for the on-field confrontations.
Due to potential violations of articles 12 and 16 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the match, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has also initiated proceedings against the Football Association of Argentina.
