The Glazer family, owners of Manchester United Football Club, is exploring financial options that can include the sale of the premier league club, according to a report. Fans of Manchester United have been clamouring for ownership change, and the Glazer family has been the target of harsh criticism after five years without a league trophy.
The Glazer family is preparing to announce its intention to examine several potential sources of outside investment that may include an action, the report said. The investment bankers were given instructions by the US owners of the club to provide advice on the process that could include a partial or full sale, and a strategic partnership with third parties. Manchester United did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
According to the reports, Jim Ratcliffe, a British billionaire, had expressed an interest in purchasing Manchester United. The Glazers family has bought the premier league club for 790 million pounds in 2005 in a deal that has been criticized for loading debt on the football club. Manchester United has been listed on the New York Stock since 2012.
