WhatsApp Launched Campaigns to Show Dangers of Unencrypted Messaging

Technology

WhatsApp has launched new campaigns to showcase the dangers of unencrypted messaging, as it is seeking to win more support for its controversial plan, and more users to the app. Meta is looking to further highlight the dangers of the unsecured messaging services such as SMS, as Meta moves to the next stage with the project.

WhatsApp has also launched a massive new activation in London to highlight the same. As Meta works to merge all of its messaging services, the company also needs to make them all encrypted by default that it argues is more in-line with the broad consumer demand for increased data privacy, and control over who is able to access their communications at any stage.

But different government and industry groups have also opposed the plan, with the government of United Kingdom pushing hard against the encryption roll-out of Meta. The child safety groups are arguing that any move to further restrict access to messaging platforms by the law enforcement will increase the potential to use these messaging platforms among perpetrator groups.

According to a research, messaging encryption actually strengthens online safety for children by decreasing their exposure to threat like blackmail, with allowing businesses to share information securely.
