VinFast Recalled its Sold EVs to Replace Sensors

Automobile

VinFast, Vietnam’s EV manufacturing company, has recalled 730 model VF e34 electric cars to investigate and replace their side crash sensors. VinFast has started operations in 2019 as a unit of the largest conglomerate of the country Vingroup. It has sold 2,208 electric vehicles since its launch in 2021.

VinFast will investigate the side crash sensor of the airbag system in the VF e34 models that is likely to encounter an incompatibility error with the airbag controller. Hence it may send an incorrect signal to the controller. However, the company has not recorded any breakdowns or complaints from the customers regarding the sensor issues.

VinFast, which ended production of gasoline-powered cars in August 2022, is also preparing to enter the US automobile market, where it is hoping to compete with legacy car producers, and deliver its first batch of 5,000 electric SUVs in November 2022.

VinFast has recorded around 65,000 reservations globally, and is expecting to sell 750,000 electric vehicles per year by 2026, starting with electric VF8 and VF9 SUVs. The company is also planning to build a production plant in North Carolina with a primary capacity of 150,000 electric vehicles per year.
