Mercedes Benz USA recalls 161,000 Units of GLS and GLE SUVs

Automobile

Mercedes Benz USA has recalled the GLS and GLE SUVs, which were manufactured between 2020 and 2022, because of a window trim defect in the rear windows while driving. More than 161,000 units of GLS, Maybach-GLS, and GLE-class SUVs have been recalled.

The fasteners that secure the trim bars on the rear window are suspected to have loosened, which will cause the trim bars to get separated while driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this defect will pose a risk to other road users, and will also increase the risk of a potential crash. There are no warning lights in cars that will indicate such a problem persists.

This is the 32nd time that the 2020 Mercedes Benz GLE SUV has been recalled since the signature SUV of the company was redesigned. The car is built in the Alabama manufacturing plant in the United States alongside the GLE, GLS, GLE-coupe, and the C-class sedan.

Owners of the affected Mercedes Benz vehicles in the United States will be notified as early as November 11, 2022, and since the vehicles are still under the new car warranty, there will be no extra cost to the owners for fixing the issue.
