UK’s NHS Trials ThirdEye Smart Glasses to Help Nurses

Healthcare Technology

UK NHS staff will be able to share live footage directly with hospital colleagues to get a second opinion, avoiding the need for further appointments and hospital admission, and also including thermal imaging to help assess how wounds and injuries have healed.

ThirdEye’s smart glasses are already being used by the US Military, along with major telecommunication companies for 5G testing, and others.

The community nurses are expected to spend more than 50 percent of their day filling out forms and inputting patient data manually.

The trials will help them to expand their capacity, which will give them more time for clinical tasks such as dressing wounds, checking blood pressure, and assessing relevant health needs of the patients.

Dr. Tim Ferris, director for transformation at the NHS, said that some of the best innovations come from local solutions, and with this project, NHS staff can test what provides the best care for the patients and what works for them.

Dr. Tim Ferris added that these new smart glasses are the latest technology and show them what the future of the NHS can look like, and that the glasses are a win-win for NHS staff and patients, along with reducing time-consuming administration work for nurses.
