The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Authority (APEDA) of India, has facilitated the export of the first consignment of plant-based meat products under the vegan food category from Nadiad in Gujarat, India to California, the United States.

The ministry of commerce & industry of India said the consignment consists of 5,000 kg of mini samosas, hot and spicy strips, spring rolls, momos, grilled patty, and nuggets, among other products.

M Angamuthu, chairman of APEDA said that the body is working towards the promotion of plant-based meat products in a big way without disturbing the meat-based export market. According to the ministry, the APEDA plans to promote a variety of vegan food products, including snacks, pancakes, cheese, and many more products, to the countries, including Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and others in coming months.

With growing popularity of vegan food products in the developed countries, the plant-based foods have a large potential of exports in the international market because of high nutrient value. Because of their rich fiber and lower cholesterol content, vegan food products are becoming alternative food products globally.
