EDF Renewables and McDonald’s Corporation Partner for Apollo Solar Project

EDF Renewables North America announced a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with McDonald’s Corporation. The Apollo Solar project will help McDonald’s meet sustainability goals and advance its commitment to climate action. The Apollo solar project is expected to start delivery of low-carbon electricity in June 2024.

Over 300 jobs are expected to be created during the 2023-2024 construction phase, with over 30 million dollars in new tax revenue generated over the operating life for taxing entities. Apollo Solar will produce clean energy while decreasing impacts on wildlife, and other environmental resources.

Matt McCluskey, vice president of development for EDF Renewables, they applaud McDonald’s for taking action on climate change, and are honored to partner with them to address their restaurant electricity carbon footprint.

He said that through the purchase of clean energy from Apollo Solar, McDonald’s will be able to decrease GHG emissions in support of their sustainability targets, while the project construction phases will provide the local community with a boosting economy through job creation, expanded tax phase, and local spending with vendors.

Elaine Strunk, senior director, global sustainability, McDonald’s, said they are happy to add EDF Renewables and the Apollo Solar project to their US renewable energy portfolio as part of their continued commitment to climate action.
