The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will further strengthen its partnership with India, and it will also support the development priorities of India for inclusive growth. Shixin Chen, vice-president of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on his India visit, reiterated the multilateral commitment of the lending agency to further strengthen its partnership with India.
He also affirmed the support of ADB to the development priorities of the Indian government that target the fast, green, and inclusive post-COVID-19 economic recovery of India. Commending the achievement of a record 4.87 billion dollars of ADB lending commitment to India in 2021, he has discussed future cooperation with India.
Shixin Chen said ADB will continue to work with the government of India to support the priorities of the Indian government in generating more jobs, improving productivity, and creating livelihood opportunities that were held back by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that to achieve this target, ADB will enhance investments in education and health, micro, small, and medium-sized companies, and also manage the public sector. It will also support the national flagship initiatives of India in logistics, urban development, infrastructure, economic corridor development, and green growth.
ADB is also aiming to help India battle climate change by serving as the climate bank for the Pacific and Asia. Shixin Chen said that the support of the agency to climate actions in India will focus on the decarbonisation of energy transition, transport, air quality, and water resource improvements.
