The sales of new cars in the United Kingdom fell by around July 10, 2022 because of the supply chain problems, which forced the industry body to decrease its full-year forecast, although it is expecting the chip shortages to ease in the up-coming months.

According to SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), and the new car registrations decreased by 9 percent from a year earlier to 112,162 vehicles, as the shortages continued to hamper the ability of the companies to fulfil orders. The sales dropped for the fifth month in a row, although the decrease was the smallest, which was recorded in 2022.

Large corporate fleet has registered an 18.2 percent decrease, to around 50,000 vehicles, while sales to consumers held steady at around 59,847 vehicles. A global shortage of semiconductors, exacerbated by COVID-19 lockdowns in important logistics and manufacturing centres in China, with the disruption caused by invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and all restricted production of new cars.
