According to reports, Germany needs to decrease its gas consumption more than any other member state of the European Union in order to achieve an agreed savings target of 15 percent of the European Union.

Germany will have to find a way to save 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas between the start of August 2022 and March 2023 in order to reach the target of the European bloc, which is the equivalent of the average annual gas consumption of five million households.

Because of its high level of gas consumption, the largest economy in Europe is required to make greater savings than any other member nation of the European Union, which makes it responsible for almost a quarter of the gas savings across the European bloc.

Robert Habeck, economy minister of Germany has indicated that Germany was already on track in delivering a 14 percent to 15 percent decrease in gas consumption compared to 2021.

Siegfried Russwurm, president of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), called on the government of Germany to speed up its measures of gas savings, and he also warned that companies attempting to switch from gas to oil were being held back by red tape. He also called for measures such as the replacement of power generation fired by gas, with coal-fired power plants. He also said this is not the speed that Germany needs in managing the crisis.
