According to official figures, Covid-19 cases have increased around 20 percent in a week, along with one in 25 people in England though to have had the disease at the end of June 2022, as a leading statistician said the number of hospitalizations from the latest increase might be topping off.

According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics, which is based on swab tests, which were collected from randomly selected households, an estimated 2.71 million people in the United Kingdom had Covid-19, which is an increase of 18 percent.

In England alone, the recent figures suggest around one in 25 people had a covid-19 infection in the last week of June 2022, and one in 17 people in Scotland. The further analysis has revealed the infection levels had been increased across all the regions of England, and all the age groups.

Sarah Crofts, the head of analytical output for Coronavirus survey, said these increases are due to the increase in the Covid-19 infections with the Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5, which have been dominant since the month of June 2022. She also said Scotland continues to have the highest infection rate, even though it has recently increased at a slower rate compared to the other UK countries.
