Shell to Build Largest Renewable Hydrogen Plant of Europe

Power & Energy

Shell have taken the final investment decision to Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plant known as Holland Hydrogen I, and the plant will be operational in 2025. The 200 megawatt plant is going to be constructed on the Tweede Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam and it will be producing around 60,000 kilograms of renewable hydrogen per day.

The renewable hydrogen produced will be supplied the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam through way of the HyTransPort pipeline, where it will replace some of the usage of hydrogen in the refinery. This is partially decarbonizing the production of energy products of the facility such as petrol and diesel and jet fuel.

As the heavy-duty trucks are coming to the market and are refuelling networks grow, and renewable hydrogen supply can also be directed toward these for helping in decarbonizing commercial road transport.
