Microsoft Signs Agreement To Purchase Power From Amplus Solar

Microsoft, a technology company based in the United States has signed a long-term renewable energy agreement with the Amplus Solar, which is a subsidiary of Petronas, an oil and gas company of Malaysia.

Under the same partnership, Microsoft is going to be purchasing the power from a 100 megawatt solar energy project that is currently being developed by the Amplus in the state of Rajasthan, India. This partnership has been a part of the strategy of Microsoft for becoming a carbon-negative organization by the year 2030.

For the purpose of meeting this objective, the company has decided to source all the electricity for the purpose of powering its operations from the renewable sources by the year 2025, which is including its data centres, along with buildings and campuses.

K Raman, managing director of Microsoft Malaysia said, this announcement has been building on their long-standing partnership that is now extending into 5teh sustainable business transformation.

He also said that, this strategic partnership is not only going to be contributing to their own sustainability goals but is also presenting them, the opportunity for applying the latest digital technology for the purpose of supporting the transition of Petronas to a more sustainable future.

Both the companies are also going to be working to develop an intelligent platform, which is powered by the artificial intelligence (AI) and data for supporting the efforts of Petronas for achieving net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2050.
