In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford said that, the recall has been covering different 2013-2019 Escape, along with 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2015-2018 Edge and 2013-2021 Transit vehicles.
The recall includes over 2.9 million vehicles in the United States and 394,000 vehicles in the region of Canada. A damaged or missing shift of the cable bushing might be preventing the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear or the vehicle might roll after the driver has selected the position ‘Park’.
Ford said that, the company had been aware of the six reports alleging the property damage and four reports of the injuries that are potentially related to the vehicles that have been recalled.
This is the fifth recall of Ford over the same issue since the year 2018 and previously, the company has also recalled around 1.4 million vehicles across the world in an earlier shift recall of cable part.
The company has declined to say how many vehicles have been a part of the latest recall across the world and the company has continued to hold the talks with NHTSA over the field reports that are related to the vehicles that had not been included in the past recalls.
Even though, the projected failures and claim rates have remained low, Ford has recommended a safety recall for all the remaining vehicles across North America along with the issue of specific shift cable bushing in the vehicles.
