Moderna Says, Its Covid-19 Vaccine Booster Effective Against Omicron Variant

Modern said, a redesigned version of the corona virus vaccine booster shot developed by Moderna appears to provide some stronger protection against the Omicron covid-19 variant than the company’s current covid-19 vaccine.

According to the company, the results of the early trail has found that, the bivalent vaccine, which has been designed for targeting both the Omicron covid-19 variant and the original corona virus strain in a single vaccine shot, which has led to an eightfold increase in the neutralization of the antibody levels.

The upgraded novel corona virus vaccine has also increased the antibody levels against all the other known variants of the novel corona virus. The company has called the Omicron bivalent vaccine as its lead candidate for the decrease in the cases.

The new corona virus vaccine shot, which is called as mRNA-1273.214, had been tested in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial of the 437 people at 50 micrograms, which is the same dosage given in the current booster vaccine shot. The company said, the new covid-19 vaccine shot had been tolerated well along with the side effects that are similar to those with a covid-19 booster dose of the company’s existing vaccine.

Moderna has only announced that, the results of the trials and the data is not released yet to the outside scientists for the review. Stephane Bancel, chief executive officer of Moderna said, they are anticipating more durable protection against the corona virus variants of concern making the vaccine their lead candidate for the 2022 booster.
