Duke Energy Renewables Wind, LLC, which is a non-regulated subsidiary of the Duke Energy, and it has also been named a provisional winner of the OCS-A 0546 lease area in the Carolina Long Bay auction of the offshore wind energy. The lease had been one of the two awarded as a part of an renewable energy auction of the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf held by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
Stephen De May, president of Duke Energy North Carolina said, by securing this lease has been creating the optionality for the future offshore wind energy if the North Carolina Utilities Commission has been determining the company’s part of at least cost path for the purpose of achieving 70 percent carbon reduction by the year 2030 and net-zero target by 2050.
Stephen De May also said that, as they are continuing for assessing the area and the project potential as they have been looking forward for the purpose of learning and listening from the diverse stakeholders and the community members in the region for making sure that, they are being thoughtful regarding all the aspects of the potential project.
The company is going to be filing the proposed carbon plan with the North Carolina Utilities Commission on 16th May 2022, which is including the multiple scenarios for the Commission for considering as the commission is finalizing the carbon plan by the end of the year 2022. The wind energy has been one of a number of the carbon-free technologies known as Duke Energy has been evaluating for decreasing the carbon emissions on the system of the company.
