European Union Watchdog Evaluating Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine For Below 5 Years

On Thursday, 5th May 2022, the drug watchdog of the European Union ‘European Medicines Agency (EMA)’ said that, it has been assessing the possible use of the corona virus vaccine developed my Moderna for the children coming under the age of five years, which has been the only group that has not yet been eligible for the corona virus jab in most of the countries across the continent.

Marco Cavaleri, head of the anti-infectives and vaccines at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said that, they have just started the evaluation of an application from the company Moderna for extending the use of the Spikevax corona virus vaccine to the children from six months of age to the five year old children.

He also said, this has been very first application for the particular young age group and in the month of February 2022, the human medicines committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) had already recommended granting an extension of the indication for the Spikevax covid-19 vaccine to be included for use in the children aged between six to eleven years of age.

The covid-19 vaccine, which has been developed by Moderna based in the United States had already been approved for the adults and children above 12 years of age. The European Medicines Agency has also approved five corona virus vaccine for use developed by Pfizer and Moderna.
