According to the reports of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the car production in the United Kingdom has continued to decrease with the industry that is still affected by the global shortage of the semiconductors and several other components.
A total of 207,347 new cars had been built during the first quarter, which has been decreased from 306,558 in the same three months affected by the novel corona virus pandemic in the year 2021.
In month of March 2022 had been the weakest for the past 13 years as the production has been decreased by 33.4 percent as a result of the production for the abroad markets that are going down by 41.4 percent. The manufacturers have been struggling for getting the hold of the parts like the computer chips or semiconductors that have been widely used on the modern vehicles.
The war in Ukraine is also continuing for affecting the production, which is leading to the shortages of the car parts like the wiring harness and valuable metals for the batteries. Mike Hawes, chief executive of SMMT said, two years after the beginning of the novel corona virus pandemic, the automobile production has still be suffering badly and around 100,000 units of the cars has been lost in the first quarter of 2022.
Mike Hawes also said that, the recovery has not started yet and a backdrop of an increasingly difficult economic environment, which is also including the escalation of the energy costs and urgent action is also needed for protecting the competitiveness of the manufacturing in the United Kingdom.
