MitoRx Therapeutics (MitoRx), a biotechnology company has been developing novel therapeutics that is reversing the mitochondrial dysfunction for the purpose of arresting the progression of the degenerative diseases and the company has announced the close if its seed financing and the financial details have not been disclosed.
The company has also announced the appointment of Glyn Edwards as the chairman of the company, who has been responsible for bringing the specialist industry experience that is developing the therapeutics for the purpose of progressing them to the late-stage clinical trials.
The first-in-class therapeutic pipeline of the company has been targeting mitochondria and the power stations of the cell. The mitochondrial dysfunction has also been linked to the progression of the rare diseases like the neuromuscular disorder like the neuromuscular disorder Duchenne Muscular dystrophy, which is a neurodegenerative disorder disease of Huntington.
It has also been implicated in the common neurodegenerative diseases. Matt Whiteman, CSO and founder of MitroRx’s academic and the partners have been recently demonstrating the complete reversal of the loss of strength because of the mitochondrial dysfunction in a Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Dr. Jon Rees, chief executive officer of MitoRx said, he have long been fascinated by how the reversing mitochondrial dysfunction can possibly arrest the progression of the degenerative diseases, which is placing great burdens on the healthcare systems and patients.
