Pfizer and BioNTech announced the positive results from the clinical trial that were conducted on the safety and immune response of a third dose of the novel corona virus vaccine in the children between the age of 5 to 11 years and the companies also added that, they are soon going to be seeking the authorization from the US regulator.
The third doses of the novel corona virus vaccine has been recommended for the children above 12 years of age and a fourth dose of the vaccine had been recently recommend for the people above 50 years of age.
The younger children except the ones with compromising immunity conditions, have not been eligible for the third dose of the corona virus vaccine along with making them a more susceptible to the infections from the Omicron covid-19 variant and the BA.2 sub-variant.
In the phase 2 and phase 3 trial of the vaccine, the company has analysed the data from the 140 children between 5 to 11 years of age, approximately six months after the second dose of the vaccine. The dosage of the vaccine in this age group has been 10 micro-grams, which had been selected for the safety reasons as the children are more susceptible to the side effects, and the dosage for the children above 12 years of age has been around 30 micrograms.
Pfizer and BioNTech has been planning to submit the data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States along with European Medicines Agency and several other regulatory agencies.
