The MPs of the United Kingdom has warned that, the chronic labour shortages in the food and farming industry can possibly lead to the increase in the prices and the United Kingdom is also becoming more dependent on the imports of food.
According to the report from the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, the Brexit and the novel corona virus is having a large impact on the farming and food industry, and Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) said that, it had been continuing to work with the industry.
In 2021, a sudden decrease in the overseas labour has led to over half a million job vacancies in the food and farming industry, which has been out of a workforce of four million, and around a quarter of the daffodil crop of the United Kingdom had been left unpicked, and the food suppliers had been forced for leaving the production in the fields.
A lack in the number of the skilled abattoir and butchers workers meant that, some 35,000 pigs that had been destined to be made into sausages, chops, and bacon had been incinerated and rendered and also decreased to lard.
The MPs said that, they had been struck by the failure of UK government for the purpose of grasping the labour issues and there had been an non-welcoming tendency for the purpose of blaming the industry for not doing more for completely utilising the immigration system on the basis of the wrong information the country’s own immigration system.
