Nissan to Invest $500-Million to Upgrade Assembly Plant in US

The automobile company ‘Nissan’ said, it is going to be investing 500 million dollars for the purpose of upgrading the tools of the company’s US assembly factory in the region of Mississippi in the United States as the company is going to be building a site for establishing an electric vehicle battery factory.

Ashwani Gupta, chief operating officer of Nissan said, the company is now investigating for the right location for the purpose of building the battery factory for the electric vehicles. Currently, the company is operating two assembly lines in the region of Canton, and one assembly line is building the light trucks which is including the Nissan Frontier and the other assembly line is producing the Altima Sedans of medium size.

Ashwani Gupta said, the assembly line of Altima is going to be redesigned for the purpose of building bot the combustion and electric vehicles, and the additional space in the factory is going to be repurposed for assembling the battery packs and several other operations as the brand has been aiming for achieving the more vertical integration.

Ashwani Gupta added, the factory to be upgraded has been currently employing around 5,000 people, and the company has also mentioned that, it is going to retain around 2,000 workers as part of the new investment, and these proposed models are going to be having new and lightweight architectures that are designed for the electric powertrains and also the autonomous driving technology.
