Officials, Cases of Lassa Fever Identified in UK

The health officials of the United Kingdom, the cases of the Lassa fever have been found in the country for the first time in more than decade, and the UKHSA (United Kingdom Health Security Agency) has confirmed that, two people have been diagnosed with the Lassa fever in the United Kingdom and a third case has been under investigation in the United Kingdom.

All the three cases of the Lassa fever have been within the same family in the eastern region of the United Kingdom and they are also linked to the recent travel to the region of west Africa, where the disease have been dominating.

Dr. Susan Hopkins, chief medical advisor at the UKHSA said that, the cases of the Lassa fever have been rarely found in the United Kingdom and the disease does not spread easily between the people, and the overall risk to the people from the country has been very low. Dr. Susan Hopkins also said that, they are now contacting the individuals who are having close contact with the cases of the disease prior to the confirmation of the infection for the purpose of providing appropriate assessment along with the advice and support.

Dr. Susan Hopkins also said that, the National Health Services (NHS) and UKHSA have been well established and the procedures of the robust infection control for the purpose of dealing with the cases of the Lassa fever in the United Kingdom.
