Using Urban Green Spaces, UK Could Grow Around 40% of Its Own Vegetables and Fruits

A new research has shown that, the United Kingdom can possibly grow up to eight times the current production of the vegetables and fruits in the country if all the available urban under and urban used green space had been turned to the cultivation of the fruits and vegetables.

According to the research, only around 1 percent of the urban green space has been making up of allotments, but if the gardens had been used along with the watersides, playing fields, parks and also the other overlooked open spaces, and the area is going to be adding up enough to grow around 40 percent of the fresh vegetable and fruit consumption, and most of which has been coming from the abroad countries.

As the researchers had not been seriously suggesting the ploughing up of the recreation and areas and parks, which has been very first study of the urban growing potential across the United Kingdom, and this study has been demonstrating how much the potential how much potential has been lying in the areas that are often overlooked and undervalued.
