United Kingdom to Impose Levy On Cars To Decrease Pollution

Environment

The different councils across the United Kingdom are now using some radical strategies for the purpose of decreasing the number of the pollution causing vehicles on the streets of the country in the response to the climate emergency.

The Leicester city council has been hoping that, a new change on the parking at the workplace is going to be improving the quality of the air, along with funding the public transport and also incentivising the cycling and walking.

The power for the purpose of raising a workplace parking levy (WPL) from the local businesses had been introduced by the Labour Party of the country more than 20 years ago, but parking has been a controversial issue in the local government that the city of Nottingham has been the only city in the country with such scheme.

The Leicester city is all set for becoming the second city in the country, and it has also been consulting on the proposals for the purpose of charging the companies with over 10 parking spaces including 550 pounds a year per parking space starting from 2022.

It is completely up to the companies or employers for deciding whether to absorb the cost or pass it on the staff of the companies, and this can possibly raise 450 million pounds in the upcoming decades for the purpose of investing into a new fleet of the fully electric buses, along with the renovations of the train stations and an expanded network cycle across the United Kingdom.
