A recent study has shown that, the patients in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) suffering with the common immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID) had not been at an increased risk of the Alzheimer’s disease more than a period of 6 years.

According to the study, the immune-mediated inflammatory diseases have been characterized by the systematic inflammation that has been affecting the healthy organ systems and the joints, and the past studies that were examining the association between the individual IMIDs and the risk of the Alzheimer’s disease had produced the mixed results.

The researchers in the study had been drawing the data from the HRS on a sample of the adults in the United States, who are over the age of 50 years, and it has also linked the claims of Medicare from the year 2006 to 2014. The INIDs has been including the diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and several other related conditions.

The researchers of the study has also found the IMIDs from the Medicare claims from 2006 to 2009 by using the codes of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD9-CM), and the risk of the Alzheimer’s disease had been examined from the 2009 to 2014 Medicare claims.

The researchers of the study said, by using a large sample of the older adults in the United States, the have found no difference in the risk of the immune-mediated inflammatory disease associated with the Alzheimer’s disease relative to the risk in a big sample that has been drawn from the general population of the United States.
