UK Increased Level of Covid-19 Alerts Due to Rapid Rise in Omicron Covid-19 Cases

On Sunday, 12^th December 2021, the government of the United Kingdom has raised the novel corona virus alert from level 3 to level 4 because of the rapid and continuous increase of the new Covid-19 Omicron Variant, and the country has recorded another 1,239 cases of the Omicron variant, which has taken the total 3,137 in the country.

The chief medical officers (CMOs) of all the areas of the United Kingdom, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales has raised the corona virus alert on the basis of the advice of the UK Health Secretary Agency (UKSHA).

The chief medical officers said, the early data has been showing that, the new Omicron covid-19 variant, which was first detected in South Africa has been spreading faster than, the Delta covid-19 variant along with the hospitalisations that are now underway.

The CMOs of all the region said, according to the early data, the new Omicron Variant has been spreading much faster than the Delta covid-19 variant, and the protection from the vaccine against the symptomatic disease form the Omicron covid-19 variant has been decreased, and the data on the severity is also going to become more clear in the upcoming weeks but it is estimated that, they will increase rapidly.

The CMOs added that, when the protection from the covid-19 vaccines has been decreased, which is currently happening with the Omicron covid-19 variant, it has been very essential for topping up the protection of the vaccines with covid-19 booster vaccine shots.
