Study: Harmful Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals Found in Fast Foods in US

According to a new study, the hormone-disrupting chemicals, that have been associated with the adverse health outcomes, which are now abundant in the meals that are available at several popular fast food restaurants in the United States, and the study has also been calling for the regulatory measures for decreasing the exposure to all these compounds.

The scientists in the study has successfully assessed around 64 samples of the fast food meals from the restaurants in the area of San Antonio, Texas for the 11 types of chemicals including the phthalates along with several other substances that have been starting to be used as the replacements to all these compounds.

The phthalates, which are widely used for the purpose of giving the plastic and several other flexibility to the substances, has also been mimicking and are tending to interfere with the natural hormones of the body like the estrogen and testosterone. The previous studies has also noted that, the exposure of the pregnant women to the phthalates can possibly alter the cognitive outcomes in the infants, and also increasing the risk of various health conditions such as asthma and obesity in the children.

In the study, the scientists have found that, around 81 percent of the fast food samples had a di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP) and around 70 percent has also contained di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and both the chemicals are linked to the problems related to the fertility in the women.
