US FDA Sets Voluntary Salt Reduction Targets for Producers of Bakery and Snacks

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued new guidance for the purpose of encouraging the manufacturers of the food to voluntarily decreasing the content of sodium across the categories including breakfast cereals, bakery, and snacks in order to help the consumers decrease the intake of the salt by 12 percent over the coming two and a half years in the United States.

The people of America typically consumes too much salt, as a result of the most commonly eating foods in which the sodium chloride has been added during the process of manufacturing and commercial food penetration, and according to the reports, the average salt intake by the people of the United States has been around 3,400 milligrams per day, which has been 50 percent more than the more lenient daily limit recommended.

The Dietary Guidelines for the Americans, 2020-2025 has been advising that, the people more than 14 years of age to limit their salt consumption to 2,300 milligrams per day, and the heart association of America has reduced it further, with the proper intake limit of 1,500 milligrams per day.
