US CDC: Salmonella Infection Outbreak Linked to Onions

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Foods and Drugs Administration (FDA) have asked the people of the United Kingdom to throw away all the unlabelled yellow, white and red onions because of the outbreak of salmonella infection across the United States.

According to the US FDA, the Salmonella Oranienburg infection outbreak has been responsible for sickening hundreds of people across the 37 states of the country, and the US FDA also said that, one source of the infections had been traced in the onions that were imported from the region of Chihuahua in Mexico, and the onions were distributed by the company ‘ProSource Inc.

The company ProSource Inc. has also agreed for recalling the red, yellow and white onions that have been imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, in the United States, along with the import dates from 1^st July 2021 to 27^th August 2021.

Till now 652 people in the country have been reported as sick from the salmonella infection and 129 people has been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported in the country. The US CDC said, the actual number of the people that fall sick is likely to be much higher, along with most of the people are going unreported, and these infections had been recorded between 31^st May 2021 and 30^th September 2021.

The US CDC said, the interviews of the sick people has shown that, 75 percent of the people have eaten raw onions or the dishes that were containing raw onions before the people fall sick.
