Ameresco Inc., a leading clean technology integrator and renewable energy asset developer, owner and operator announced that, it has signed a new contract with the Southern California Edison (SCE) for the purpose of designing and building three grid scale battery energy storage systems at the existing substation parcel throughout the service territory of SCE based on California.
Because of the impact of the extreme weather events on the state of California, this plan is significantly going to increase the reliability of the grid along with a targeted commercial operation date scheduled in the month of August 2022. The company said, the innovative cleantech projects of this magnitude are having the ability to provide some transformative solutions to the regions in the country, which are in the need of the resilient and reliable energy.
These substation energy storage systems are going to be built for the purpose of addressing the emergency reliability risks that have been identified in the Emergency Proclamation of the governor of the state that are aiming at the utilization of the clean energy resources for the purpose of addressing the shortages of electric power because of the extended drought, heat waves and wildfires.
Kevin Payne, CEO and president of Southern California Edison (SCE) said, the company is seeing a growing role for the battery storage as they have been transitioning to deliver 100 percent of the clean renewable energy to their customers, and the battery storage systems, which they have make a contract with Ameresco Inc., is going to make the grid more resilient to all the effects of the extreme weather and it is also going to help the SCE for continuing their progress towards the future of clean energy.
