SMMT Calls Government to Provide Support to Electrify Commercial Vehicles in UK

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has been calling on the government of United Kingdom for working with the industry on a realistic plan for the purpose of facilitating the transition to the zero-emissions heavy goods vehicle before announcing a deadline for banning the new ICE vehicles.

According to the SMMT, the support from the UK government has been needed for the purpose of providing a refueling and charging infrastructure that can possibly handle the demands of the commercial vehicle, and the SMMT has also been calling on the government of UK for providing help in training the technicians for maintaining the zero-emissions vehicles.

The government of United Kingdom is also looking to propose a deadline of 2040 for the end of the sales of the ICE commercial vehicles in the country, and the European HGV manufacturers have also agreed to manufacture the vehicle, that will be fossil-fuels free by 2040, but these vehicle are going to be needing a public network of the refueling and charging points for the purpose of providing support for switching to the propulsion of zero-emissions.

Currently, there is just 0.2 percent of the HGVs have been alternatively fueled, along with the cars that have attained the same proportion in the year 2007, and the electric vans are also proving to be more popular than the fully electric HGVs, along with 2.6 percent of the new vans that are electric, and although, this is still falling behind the new fully electric cars, that are having an 8.2 percent share of the market.
