Technology

On Monday, 30th August 2021, Instagram said, it is going to start requiring its users to confirm their birthdays as a part of an effort for the purpose of creating the new safety features for the young people.

The app has explored creating a version of the application for the kids who are under the age of 13 years, which was responsible for prompting the lawmakers to urge Facebook for dropping the plans, by saying that, the company is having a clear record of not being able to protect the children on the social media platform.

The company ‘Instagram’ said, it is going to be using the information for the purpose of ensuring that, they provide the right experiences to the people of the right age group, and last month, the company said, it is going to default the users who are under 16 years of age to a private account, when they will be joining the social media platform.

Instagram said, it is going to be asking the users for their birthdays, when they will open the app and it will also be showing several pop-up notifications if the user of the app does not enter the birthday, and as several points, the users of Instagram are also going to be required for submitting their date of birth for continuing to use the app.

These changes are also going to affect the users of Instagram, who had not shared their date of birth on the app previously.
